Newase is a land of countless challenges, perpetually in search of warriors and adventurers who will rise to those challenges, and from this unending need arose the Tyrus Mercenary Services. With a network of outposts in each city, Tyrus offers a central location for those seeking adventurers to find them. Prospective patrons describe their mission; the Tyrus Mercs assign it a difficulty rating based on numerous factors such as location, requirements, and known danger; the patron pays the reward plus an administrative fee; Tyrus lists the mission for any interested mercenary to take. Although direct hiring has not vanished completely, and remains popular for shadier arrangements or simply interested parties wishing to avoid Tyrus's fees, the Merc Services have consistently proven to be reliable and dependable administrators of such transactions. Those who take on their missions never need worry about being stiffed or underpaid.

Most Tyrus mercenaries must pay an annual fee and demonstrate basic competence to remain on the lists, but the Services make an exception for Mirages, who are invariably skilled at combat and almost invariably profitable to keep on the roster. As such, any player character qualifies to take on these missions.

Notes on Missions

  • Mission difficulty is determined on a star scale. One-star missions are simple, uncomplicated, and suitable for even a rank novice or a Driver who just resonated with a Blade for the first time that same day. Five-star missions are dangerous affairs that could threaten the lives of a skilled and capable group of seasoned warriors. The 10-star mission has never come close to being accomplished in all known history and is widely considered utterly impossible.
  • Missions with 'R' in front of their number are standing missions that almost never leave the board.
  • Mission rewards are arbitrary. Since money is not tracked, instead assume that taking on a reasonable number of one- or two-star missions is enough to earn food and board. More difficult missions are more rewarding.

However, you may comment here with an "R" mission and log to receive an incident -- some sort of complication or twist that will change the mission, almost certainly for the worse. You grow through adversity, right?
